2、whichareamenabletogaschromatography,byGC/FT-IR.GC/FT-IRcanbeausefulcomplementtoGC/MSanalysis(Method8270).ItisparticularlywellsuitedfortheidentificationofspecificisomersthatarenotdifferentiatedusingGC/MS.Compoundclassassignmentsaremadeusinginfraredgroupabsorptionfrequencies.Thepre

3、senceofaninfraredbandintheappropriategroupfrequencyregionmaybetakenasevidenceofthepossiblepresenceofaparticularcompoundclass,whileitsabsencemaybeconstruedasevidencethatthecompoundclassinquestionisnotpresent.Thisevidencewillbefurtherstrengthenedbythepresenceofconfirmatorygroupfreq
