2、trelatestotheenergysimulationofbuildings.ThepaperbeginswithadiscussionofthedifficultiesinusingFurthermore,eveninthoseprojectsthatemployenergysophisticatedanalysistoolssuchasenergysimulationatvari-simulationduringdesign,theuseofthesetoolsisdifficulttoousstagesinthebuildin
3、glifecycleandthepotentialfordynamicallycarryforwardtolaterstagesofthebuildinglifeinteroperabilitytohelpovercomethesedifficulties.Anover-cycle.Theinputto,andoutputfrom,energysimulationisviewoftheIndustryFoundationClasses(IFC),acommondatastatic.Resimulationofthebuildingasi
4、tchangesovertimemodelforsupportinginteroperabilityundercontinuingdevel-(e.g.,fromalterationsinoccupancy,use,oroperationormoreopmentbytheInternationalAllianceforInteroperability(IAI),substantialrenovation)requiressignificantdatareentry.Evenisthengiven.Theprocessofcreating
5、interoperablesoftwareiftheinputfilesandoutputresultsfromthedesignstagehaveisdescribednext,followedbyspecificdetailsforenergysimu-beenarchived,itisadifficulttasktoaccuratelycollectalloflationtools.Thepapercloseswiththecurrentstatusof,andtheinformationonbuildingchanges,rec
6、oncilethesechangesfutureplansfor,theongoingeffortstoachievesoftwarewiththeearlierinput,andcomparenewanalysisoutputwithinteroperability.thepreviousresults.ThesedifficultiesmeanthatalthoughenergysimulationcouldbeausefultoolinassuringoptimumINTRODUCTIONbuildingperformanceov
