2、kesthismethodtobeespeciallyappealingforturbulentflows.Inthisworkwediscusstheaccuracyandconservationpropertiesofthemethodinvariousscenarioswithlargedensityandviscosityjumpsacrosstheinterfaceincludingsurfacetensioneffects.1IntroductionNowadaysthesimulationofturbulentflowsistheobje
3、ctofintenseresearch.Althoughnumericaltechniquesandmodelshavebeenalreadywidelyinvesti-gatedintheliteratureforsinglephaseflows,currentstudiesarestillfarfromacompleteunderstandingofrealprocessesencounteredinacountlessnumberofapplicationsinvolvingmultiplephases,suchasrocketengines
4、injectors,dieselenginesorchemicalprocess.Whentwoormoredifferentphasesarepresentinthesystemwecandistinguishnotonlyarangeofcharacteristiclength-scalesrelatedtotheturbulentnatureoftheflow,butalsoarangeofsizesandshapesofeachofthephasespresentinthesystem.Thisfactsignificantlyincrease
5、sthecomplexityofthesimulationsrequiredtoinvestigatesuchtypeofproblems,whichrequireacontinuousdevelopmentandoptimizationofthenumericaltech-niquesandmodels.Thescientificcommunityhasmadeanimportanteffortdevelopingmodelsformultiphaseflowswhenoneofthephasescanbeconsid-eredasdisperse(
6、onlysomeexamplescanbefoundin[27,11,29]).However,theextensionandevaluationnumericalmodelstosituationswherethestruc-turesoftheinterfacesiswellcapturedislessprolific.Thedevelopmentofthesemethodsisimportantinordertoevaluatetheimportanceofturbulenceinpro-cesswhereanyofthemultipleph
7、asespresentonitcanbeconsideredasdisperse.Numericaltechniquesusedforthesimulationofturbulentflowsandmulti-phaseflowshavebeentraditionallydifferent.Ononehand,numericalschemestypicallyusedforthesimulationofturbulentflowsmustpayanespecialatten-tiontotheconservationofglobalpropertiess
