3、metersandlengths,withandwithoutinletandoutletscreens,overawiderangeofoperatingconditions,andintherangeofinletqualitiesfrom0to1andsubcool-ingupto40°C.Themassflowratethroughorificetubeswasfoundtobeastrongfunctionofinletpressure,inletsubcooling,anddiameter,butarelativelyweakfunction

4、oflength.Thesemi-empiricalmodelisdevelopedusingthedatasetandisapplicableoverthecompleterangeofoperatingconditionscoveringtransientsandveryhighvaporqualityinletsthatarecommoninautomotiveairconditioningapplications.INTRODUCTIONTheorificetubeisasimpleexpansiondevice.Itissimilarinpri

5、ncipletocapillarytubesandthedivisionisarbitrary.Mostlybecauseofsimplicityofdesign,reliability,easeofreplacement,andcosteffectiveness,orificetubesarebecomingverypopularinmobileandresidentialaircon-ditioningsystems.Single-phaseincompressiblefluidflowthroughorificesiswellunderstooda

6、ndmathemati-callydescribedtosuchadegreethat,ifgeometricaltolerancesaremet,orificesareoftenusedasflowmeters.Two-phaseflowthroughorificeandcapillarytubesismuchmorecomplexandlesswellunderstood.Themajorityofresearchtodatehasfocusedoncapillarytubes.Onlyasmallfractionoftheresearchintot

7、hefixedareaexpansiondeviceshasbeenfocusedonorificetubephenomena.Dataareavailableforjustafewrefrigerants:Pasqua(1953),Mei(1982),AaronandDomanski(1990),KimandO’Neal(1993),PayneandO’Neal(1998)andothers.ThearticlesavailableinopenliteraturepriortothisstudyaresummarizedinFigure1.Mostof
