2、uoro-carbonshaspromptedresearchintothepossibilitiesofreplacementrefrigerants,particularlythoseoccurringnaturallyintheenvironment.Onesuchnaturalrefrigerant,carbondioxide,hasbeenconsideredforcertainrefrigerationandairconditioningapplications.Inordertoevaluatethepotenti

3、alperformanceofarefrigerationcyclebasedoncarbondioxide,acyclemodelhasbeendevelopedwhichcansimulatetheoperationofacarbondioxidebasedrefrigerator/airconditioner.ThismodeliscalledACCO2andaccountsfortherealisticeffectsofthethermo-physicalpropertiesofcarbondioxide.Themode

4、lsimulatestheoperationofacarbondioxidebasedairconditionerthatusesairastheheatsourceandheatsink.AparametricstudyhasbeenconductedusingACCO2aswellasavalidatedcyclemodelwhichsimulatestheoperationofanHCFC-22basedpackagedaircondi-tionerdesignedforusebytheU.S.Armyinacombate

5、nvironment.Thesizeandweightcon-straintsofthisapplicationrenderHCFC-22basedunitslessefficientthantypicalHCFC-22unitaryairconditionersofthesamecapacity.Itishypothesizedthatthesesameconstraintswillnotaffecttheperformanceofacarbondioxidebasedpackagedairconditionerassever

6、ely.Theevaporativecapacity,compressorpower,andCOPwerecalculatedforeachcycleoverarangeofindoorandoutdoortemperatures,andusedasabasisforcomparingthetwocycles.INTRODUCTIONRegulationsprohibitingtheuseofchlorofluorocarbons(CFCs)asrefrigerantsbyindustrial-izednationsarecur

7、rentlyineffect,andguidelinesforphasingouthydrochlorofluorocarbons(HCFCs)asrefrigerantsinthefuturehavealreadybeenagreeduponbymanynations.Thishaspromptedresearchersworldwidetoinvestigatethefeasibilityofnewlydevelopedornaturalrefrigerantsinconventionalornovelrefrigerati
