2、reations,integratingintohisarchitectureaseriesofcraftsinwhichhewasskilled:ceramics,stainedglass,wroughtironworkforgingandcarpentry.Heintroducednewtechniquesinthetreatmentofmaterials.TheCasaMilaapartmenthousewasalateexampleofAntonioGaudi'sapartmenthouse.Onacornersite,thebuildingfacadeiscurvilinearinf
3、ormandbasedonorganicconcepts.Theheavyfacadeistiedtothefloorsbehind.Themostsuccessfulportionsofthedesignweretheroofvaults,clusteredchimneys,andbalconyrailings.Thisdesigncausedmuchpubliccomment,andAntonioGaudiwasforcedtodefendhisorganicformsingeneralterms.Anewchurch,theSagradaFamiliaChurchinBarcelona,
4、wastobededicatedtotheholyfamily.In1883,AntonioGaudiwasrecommendedtoreplacetheoriginalarchitectwhohadresigned.Atage31,AntonioGaudiundertookwhatbecamehislife'swork.DuringtheyearsthatAntonioGaudiwasworkingonthecrypt,hewasformulatingdesignideastobeexpressedinthechurchabove.Theeasttranseptwasselectedfora
5、presentationoftheNativity,andworkbeganontheapse,thelowerpartofthetowers,andtheentrancedoors.Nowpleaseletmypartnerlanmengtocontinuethisspeech.By1901,workbeganontheupperpartofthetowers,andtheretheshiftfromamoretraditionalbeginningtoanewstylecanbeseen.Thesquarebaseofthetowerswasmodifiedintotheroundtowe
6、rs,whichgreweverfreerindesignastheworkprogressed.After1910,AntonioGaudispentallofhiseffortonreligiouscommision,andtheeastfronttowerswerecompletedafterhisdeathin1926.Workcontinueduntil1935,whenitwasstoppedbytheSpanishCivilWar.AntonioGaudileftanumberofmodelsforthecompletionofthenaveandthetwoothermainf
