3、iningthatIreceivedinordertobecomeanofficerintheUnitedStatesArmy.Andcomingtotheseschoolsalwaysremindsmeofthatexperienee.IalsowanttoexpressmygreatappreciationtotheChinesepeoplefortheirhospitality,fortheirkindnessduringmyfirsttriptothiscountryastheUnitedStatessecretaryofde
4、fense.OverthecourseofmytimehereinBeijing,I'vehadaseriesofverypositive,productive,andcandidexchangeswithyourmilitaryandcivilianleaders,ineludingasessionwithVicePresidentXijustthismorning.Theseinteractionsmadeitcleartomethattheleadersofbothofourcountriesaresincerelyworkin
5、gtowardsthesamegoal:tobuildasustainedandsubstantiveUnitedStates-ChinadefenserelationshipthatsupportsthebroaderUnitedStates-Chinacooperativepartnership・Thiscommoneffortiscriticalbecause,astwomajorpowers,andastheworldstwolargesteconomies,astrongUnitedStates-Chinapartnersh
