5、inityofPozzuolinearMt.Vesuvius,hencethename“pozzolan”usedtoidentifyacertaintypeofmineraladmixtureusedinconcretetoday.ThecementproducedbytheRomanswasahydrauliccement,thatis,ithadthecapabilityofhardeningunderwater.ManyoftheRomanstructureswereconstructedofaformofconcrete,us
6、ingthesematerials,andstonemasonrywasbondedwithamortarsimilarlycomposed.DuringtheMiddleAgesofhistory,theartofmakinggoodmortarwasnearlylost,thelowpointhavingbeenreachedinaboutthellthcentury,whenmuchinferiormaterialwasused.Qualityofthelimestartedto13improveatthistimeandinth
