1、2017hasbeenayearofprogressfortheUnitedKingdom.InJanuary,IsetoutourobjectivesfortheBrexitnegotiations,andinthemonthssincewehavepursuedthemwithsteadypurpose.InMarchwetriggeredArticle50,puttingthedecisionoftheBritishpeopleintoaction.InDecemberwereachedagreementonthefirstphas
2、eofnegotiationswithourEUpartners.Nextyearwewillmoveontothevitalissuesoftradeandsecurity,andIamdeterminedthatwewillkeepupourprogressin2018.Becausewhicheverwayyouvotedinthereferendum,mostpeoplejustwantthegovernmenttogetonanddeliveragoodBrexit,andthat’sexactlywhatwearedoing.
3、MakingasuccessofBrexitiscrucial,butitwillnotbethelimitofourambitions.Wealsohavetocarryonmakingadifferencehereandnowontheissuesthatmattertopeople’sdailylives.Thatmeansbuildinganeconomyfitforthefutureandtakingabalancedapproachtogovernmentspending,sowegetourdebtfallingbutcan
4、alsoinvestinthethingsthatmatter–ourschools,ourpoliceandourpreciousNHS.Ourgoalissimple:moregoodjobsineverypartofthecountry,andmoreopportunitiesforyoungpeopletogetoninlife.Thefirststeptoabetterfutureisgettingaplaceatagoodschool.It’swhateveryparentexpects,andit’swhateverychi
5、lddeserves.Sowewillbuildmoregoodschools,keepatightfocusonstandardsanddiscipline,andgivemorehelpandsupporttoourfantasticteachers.Wewillbuildmorehomes,sohousingbecomesmoreaffordableandmorefamiliescangeton–andclimbup–thehousingladder.Andwewillprotectandenhanceournaturalenvir
6、onmentforthenextgeneration.2018isaspecialyearinthelifeofoneofourmostcherishedinstitutions,aswewillcelebratethe70thbirthdayofourNationalHealthService.Itisayeartorededicateourselvestoitsfoundingideal:thatgoodhealthcareshouldbeavailabletoeveryone,regardlessofincome.Andit’sac
7、hancetocelebratethecareandcompassionofourwonderfulNHSstaff.WewillcontinuetoinvestinourNHSandensureitcandeliveraworld-classservicenowandforgenerationstocome.AswemarkthecentenaryoftheendoftheFirstWorldWar,andrememberthetremendoussacrificesofthatconflict,theUKwillremainacham
