3、aidtheirfindingscouldbeappliedtoallregionsoftheworld,andsenta“strongsignal”togovernmentstodealwiththeproblemimmediately.DrKurtStraif,headoftheIARCMonographsSectionwhichidentifiesenvironmentalcausesofcancer,said:“Theairwebreathehasbecomepollutedwithamixtureofcancer-causing
4、substances.“Wenowknowthatoutdoorairpollutionisnotonlyamajorrisktohealthingeneral,butalsoaleadingenvironmentalcauseofcancerdeaths.”Thelatestdatasuggestthatin2010,airpollutionwasresponsibleforthedeathsof223,000lungcancerpatientsaroundtheworld.DrDanaLoomis,deputyheadoftheIAR
5、Cmonographssection,explained:“Ourtaskwastoevaluatetheaireveryonebreathesratherthan6focusonspecificairpollutants.”“Theresultsfromdifferentstudiespointinthesamedirection:theriskofdevelopinglungcancerissignificantlyincreasedinpeopleexposedtoairpollution.”Althoughthefindingsd
6、onotcomeasasurprise,theyarelikelytosignificantlyincreasethepressureongovernmentsaroundtheworldtodealwithpollution,whichhasrisenrapidlyaroundtheworldduringindustrialisationandwasalreadyknowntoraisetheriskofconditionslikeheartandrespiratorydiseases（呼吸道疾病）.Traffic,powerstati
