2、sbeenmountedinfavorofthesplitinflectionhypothesis.Thispaperpresentsevidencefromaneuropsychologicalangleinsupportofthishypothesis.Giventhatagrammaticaphasicpatientsdemonstrateaselectivedeficitinthesyntacticdomain,itistemptingtolookforimpairmentpatternsthatp
3、ertaintoissuesdebatedincurrentsyntactictheory.Someargumentsfromagrammatismtolinguisticshavealreadybeenputforthinthepast(cf.Grodzinsky,1990;Grodzinsky,Wexler,Chien,Marakovitz&Solomon,1993).Wewillfocusontheinflectionaldomain,andshowthattheagrammaticselective
4、breakdownpatternfollowstheexactsamelinethatthetheorysketchesbetweensubpartsofinflection:tenseandagreement.Thus,wewillpresentcorroboratingevidencetothetheory,byshowinghownaturalclasseswithinitbehavedifferentiallyinaphasia.Inaddition,wewillshowthattheimpairm
5、entintensenodehasimplicationsuponhighernodesinthesyntactictree.Webelievethattheseclaimsarerelevanttoanyoneinterestedinpsycholinguisticandneurolinguisticaspectsofthetheoryofsyntax.Moreover,theyareofspecialinteresttostudentsoflanguageacquisition,wheresomewha
