2、enance(CBM)isbecomingmorewide-spreadwithinUSindustryandmilitaryapplications.Adevelopmentteam,throughtheOpenSystemArchitectureforCondition-BasedMaintenance(OSA-CBM)program,hasaddressedaframeworkforthenextgenerationofmachinerymonitoringanddiagnosticsystems.Thisframeworkemploysan
3、opensystemarchitecturethatusesadistributedsoftwaremodelapproachtofacilitatetheintegrationandinterchangeabilitybetweenofavarietyofhardwareandsoftwarecomponents.OSA-CBMisstrivingtobuildade-factostandardtoencompasstheentirerangeoffunctionsfromdatacollectionthroughtherecommendatio
4、nofspecificmaintenanceactions.Thepotentialbenefitsofarobustnon-proprietarystandardincludeimprovedeaseofupgradingforsystemcomponents,abroadersuppliercommunity,morerapidtechnologydevelopment,andreducedcosttoendusers.AnoverviewonOSA-CBMdevelopmentandinsightintoanXML-basedimplemen
5、tationisprovided.Introduction:ConditionBasedMaintenanceusesaccurateandreliablepredictionsofcurrentandprojectedsystemcondition(orhealth)toindicatetheneedforandtypeofmaintenanceaction.Maintenanceandmonitoringgohandinhandinanypredictiveorproactivestrategy.Reducingoperationalandma
6、intenancecostsrequiresbalancingtheuseofCBMtechnologywithtraditionalpredictivemaintenanceforunmonitoredcomponents.ThefactorsthathavedrivenanincreaseintheuseofCBMincludetheneedforreducedmaintenanceandlogisticscosts,improvedequipmentavailability,andprotectionagainstfailureofmissi
