2、ngfixed-locationrelaystations(RSs)isstudied.Transmis-sionratesarederivedforserial,parallel,andhybridrelaytrans-missions,consideringtheutilizationofRSsasameanstoextendthedimensionalityofamultiple-inputmultiple-output(MIMO)transmission.Thederivedtransmissionratefortheserialrelaytransmi

3、ssionisoptimizedbydeterminingtheoptimallocationsoftheRSsandthenumberofhops.Inaddition,selectionschemesfordeterminingwhichRSstoactivatetomaximizethetransmissionrateareprovidedforparallelandhybridrelaytopologies.Basedontheanalyticfindings,numericalresultsareobtainedforvariousdeployment
