2、ndFuture1Globallyintegratedcitiesareintimatelylinkedtoeconomicandhumandevelopment.Bycreatinganenvironmentthatspawns,attracts,andretainstoptalent,businesses,ideas,andcapital,aglobalcitycangeneratebenefitsthatextendfarbeyondmunicipalboundaries.AtA.T.Kearney,ourGlobalCiti

3、esIndex(GCI)examinesacomprehensivelistof84citiesoneverycontinent,measuringhowgloballyengagedtheyareacross26metricsinfivedimen-sions:businessactivity,humancapital,informationexchange,culturalexperience,andpoliticalengagement(seeAppendix:GlobalCitiesIndexMethodology).Sin

4、cewebegantheGCIin2008,we’vecontinuallyrefreshedourmetricstoreflectemergingtrends,analyzedhowcitiesevolvealongeachofthem,anddevelopedinsightsabouthowacitycanbecomemoreglobal.Moreover,ourcompanionEmergingCitiesOutlook(ECO)buildsonthoseinsightsandcomple-mentstheGCI.Justas

5、theGCItracksmajorcities’actualperformance,theECOmeasurestheirpotentialtobecomeevenmoreglobalinthefuture.Specifically,theECOexaminesthelikelihoodthat35citiesinlow-andmiddle-incomecountrieswillimprovetheirfutureglobalpositioning,basedonhowquicklythey’vebeencatchingupwith

6、thetopperformersonanumberofleadinghumancapital,businessactivity,andinnovationindicators.We’veconsistentlytrackedtheevolutionof60globalcitiesoverthepastsixyears,towhichwe’veadded24moreoverthesubsequentthreeeditions.Takentogether,theGCIandtheECOpaintarevealingportraitoft
