4、epublicAbstractWeestimatechangesinforestcover(deforestationandforestregrowth)inthetropicsforthetwolastdecades(1990–2000and2000–2010)basedonasampleof4000unitsof10910kmsize.Forestcoverisinterpretedfromsatelliteimageryat30930mresolution.Forestcoverchange
5、sarethencombinedwithpan-tropicalbiomassmapstoesti-1matecarbonlosses.Weshowthattherewasagrosslossoftropicalforestsof8.0millionhayrinthe1990sand7.61millionhayrinthe2000s(0.49%annualrate),withnostatisticallysignificantdifference.Humidforestsaccountfor64
6、%ofthetotalforestcoverin2010and54%ofthenetforestlossduringsecondstudydecade.LossesofforestcoverandOtherWoodedLand(OWL)coverresultinestimatesofcarbonlosseswhicharesimilarfor1990sand2000sat11887MtCyr(range:646–1238)and880MtCyr(range:602–1237)respectiv
7、ely,withhumidregionscontributingtwo-thirds.Theestimatesofforestareachangeshavesmallstatisticalstandarderrorsduetolargesamplesize.Wealsoreduceuncertaintiesofpreviousestimatesofcarbonlossesandremovals.Ourestimatesofforestareachangearesignificantlyloweras
8、comparedtonationalsurveydata.Wereconcilerecentlowestimatesofcarbonemissionsfromtropicaldeforestationforearly2000sandshowthatcarbonlossratesdidnotchangebetweenthetwolastdecades.Carbonlossesfromdeforestationrepresentcirca10%ofCarbonemissionsfrom
