2、ionofnaturalimagesandtheeval-uationofitsperformance.Westudytheproblemintheframeworkofhierarchicalclassification,wherethegeomet-ricstructureofanimagecanberepresentedbyanultra-metriccontourmap,thesoftboundaryimageassociatedtoFigure1.Naturalimageandcompositehumansegmentation.afamilyofn

3、estedsegmentations.Wedefinegenericultra-metricdistancesbyintegratinglocalcontourcuesalongtheregionsboundariesandcombiningthisinformationwithre-ofregionsandscaleareformalizedbythestructureofin-gionattributes.Then,weevaluatequantitativelyourre-dexedhierarchyor,equivalently,bythedefinit

4、ionofanul-sultswithrespecttoground-truthsegmentationdata,prov-trametricdistanceontheimagedomain.Wepresentafor-ingthatoursystemoutperformssignificantlytwowidelymulationoftheproblemintermsofcontoursthatallowstousedhierarchicalsegmentationtechniques,aswellastherepresentanindexedhierarc
