2、chniquesthatareusedcommonlyinanimalnutritionstudies.ItwasoriginallydesignedtobeasupplementtoandreferenceforAnimalScience507,LaboratoryTechniquesinNutrition,atNewMexicoStateUniversity,andsubsequentlyrevisedforuseinAnSc5507,ResearchTechniquesinAnimalNutrit
3、ion,atWestTexasA&MUniversity.Assuch,thetextowesmuchofitsdevelopmenttothecourseandthepeoplewhotaughtanddevelopedthiscourseovertheyears.Dr.G.S.Smithdeservesspecialrecognitionforhismanyyearsofworkwiththecourse,asdonumerouslaboratorytechnicianswhocompiledand
4、developedproceduresovertheyears.Basically,thetextisanoutlineoftheauthor'scoursenoteswithattemptsmadetoexpandandreferencewherepossible.Manyoftheexamplesdealwithruminantsbecausetheauthorismostfamiliarwiththem;however,thisshouldnotdetractfromitsgeneralappli
5、cabilitytootherlivestockoreventohumannutrition.Thetextcanbedividedintoseveralgeneralareas,includinglaboratorysafety,proximateanalysis,spectrophotometry,liquidscintillationcounting,theuseofmarkersinnutritionstudies,andmicrobiologyofruminants.Itisnotintend
