3、ntoday’senterprisesarefacedwiththerelationaldatabasesystemthatsignificantlyimpactperformance.challengingtaskofdeterminingtheappropriatechoiceofphysicalHorizontalpartitioningalsoprovidesmanageability;databasedesignconsistingofpartitionedtables,indexesandmaterializeda

4、dministratorsoftenrequireindexesandtheirunderlyingtablesviewsthat(a)optimizestheperformanceoftheSQLqueriesandpartitionedidenticallysoastomakecommonoperationssuchasupdatesand(b)iseasiertomanageatthesametime.backup/restoreeasier.Whilepartitioningisimportant,incorporat

5、ingpartitioningmakestheproblemofautomatingOurgoalistooptimizetheperformanceofadatabaseforagivenphysicaldesignmuchhardersince:(a)Thechoicesofpartitioningrepresentativeworkload,whileconsideringalignmentcanstronglyinteractwithchoicesofindexesandmaterializedrequirements

7、em.Inthispaper,wepresentnovelbothhorizontalandverticalpartitioningaswellasalignmenttechniquesfordesigningascalablesolutiontothisintegratedrequirementsinanintegratedmanner.Thenoveltechniquesphysicaldesignproblemthattakesbothperformanceandpresentedinthispaperaremotiva
