2、TemperatureresponsecurvesofchlorophyllaIntroductionXuorescenceparameterswereusedtoassessminimumsub-zerotemperatureassuringfunctioningofphotosyntheticLichensaresymbioticorganismscapableofsurvivinginphotochemicalprocessesinphotosystemII(PSII)ofextremeenvironments,includingsub-zerotemperatures.An
3、tarcticlichens.UmbilicariaAntarcticaandXanthoriaLichens’hightolerancetofreezingtemperatureisreportedelegansweremeasuredwithinthetemperaturerangefrome.g.forXanthoriacandelariaandRhizoplacamelanophth-¡20to+10°CbyaXuorometricimagingsystem.Foralma(LangeandKappen1972;Kappen1989,1993).potential(FV/F
4、M)andactual(II)quantumyieldsofphoto-Thosespeciestoleratedgradualorrapidfreezingtochemicalprocessestheminimumtemperaturewasfoundto¡196°C,evenafterbeingstoredupforseveralyears,bebetween¡10and¡20°C.Non-photochemicalquench-almostimmediatelyresumednormalphotosyntheticratesing(NPQ)ofabsorbedexcitat
5、ionenergyincreasedwithwhenwarmedandwetted.After5–7monthsofcoldandtemperaturedropreachingmaximumNPQat¡15°C.continuousdarkness,theyremaingreenwithintactphoto-Imageanalysisrevealedintrathallineheterogeneityofchlo-syntheticpigments.Inspiteofthefactthatoptimumtem-rophyllaXuorescenceparameterswithte
