Q10300125theDifferencesofUniversityEducationBetweenChinaandAmericanØIntroduction“TheAmericanuniversityhasbeenconsideredasmodelsbytheworld,althoughitonlyhasahistoryof300years”,(别敦荣,2012)ithasthemostexcellentuniversitiesintheworld.EveryyeartensofthousandsofstudentsfromallovertheworldcometoAmericanforstudying,includingalargenumberofChineseexcellentstudents.Onthecontrary,Chinaasanancientcountrycivilizationwithoverfivethousandyears,onlyhaveseveralfamousuniversities.ThisessayaimstostudythecharacterofTheUnitedStatesuniversityeducationandfindoutthemeritofAmericanuniversity.Thentaketheessenceanddiscardthedregstoimprovethequalityofourowneducation.ØⅠ.ComparisonbetweenAmericanandChineseuniversityeducation1.1teachingstyleInAmerican,almostallteacherslikesmall-classteaching,theybelievethatitwillletallthestudentshaveequalchancetojoininclassdiscussions.Inaddition,theycanbefullyawareofeverystudent’sabilitysothattheycanmakeappropriateplanforeveryone.Inclass,teachersbyaskingquestionsletstudentsthinkandimage.NomatterhowstudentsrespondifonlytheyhavetheirownAngleandviewpoint,theyarejustright.Teachersalsoencouragestudentstodiscussandraisequestionswhicharethesharperthebetter.HoweverinChina,studentshardlyeverparticipateinclassdiscussions.Theteachertellthemeverythingaboutthebook,andwhattheyshoulddoistowriteitdownandrememberit.Thereisanotheruniquephenomenonisthatthemasterpaymuchattentiontogoodstudentswhichresultinbadstudentsbecomeevenworsewhilegoodstudentsbecomeevenbetter.Evenstudenshavequestion,theyaretooshytoraisetheirhands.Respectivelyspeaking,AmericanclassislivelywhileChineseclassisveryquiet.1.2Examandhomework Q10300125Thereisnodoubtthatexamisthemosteffectiveandconvenientwaytocheckstudents’studyingcondition.Domesticuniversityonlyhavetwoexams:themiddleandthefinnal.Nevertheless,inAmerican,theyhavemanyquizzesinasemester.Thereasonforthisistoforcestudentstolookupinformationandstudybythemselves.Moreover,theyhavemuchhomeworktodowhiletheyonlyhaveseveralclassesinaweek,forthemostpart,theyspendtheirtimeindoinghomework.Bycontrast,Chinesestudentshavesomuchleisuretimethattheycandoeverythingtheylike,suchasplaycomputergames,shopping,playingbasketballandsoon.Ofcoursetherestillhavemanystudentsmakeeveryefforttostudying.ToAmericanstudents,memorizingisnecessary,butcreativityisthemostessential.Togetfullcreditisnotaeasything,andtheuniversitywillnotletthemeasilytogetthediploma.Soaboutahalfofthemcan’tgraduatefromtheuniversity.InChina,moststudentscangettheirdiplomawhichdon’tneedthemtopaytoomuchsacrifice.1.3TargetInAmerican,everyuniversityhasitsreasonstoexist,nomatterhowsmallitis.Andeachuniversityknowswhattheirtargetis.Forexample,theeconomicinstituteofStanforduniversityhasthreegoalsforundergraduate.Thefirstisknowingallkindsofmodernsocialeconomicphenomenon;thesecondismasteringtheskillsofanalysingeconomicproblems;thethirdisknowinghowtoevaluatepublicpolicy.ThereisnodoubtthenumberofuniversitiesinChinaisbecomingmoreandmore,butalmostnouniversityknowswhyitselfshouldbeestablishedandexist.JustbecauseChinahasalargepopulation,andonlyincreasethenumberoftheuniversitiescanmanystudentsgototheuniversity.Inaddition,“thedevelopmentofChineseuniversitiesbehaveabitimpulsive,forexample,manyuniversitiesareseekingforcertain“worldrankings”butoverlooktheformaldevelopmentofthemselves.”(Educationisa,2012)Andmostofstudentschoosetogotouniversityistogetadiplomawhichcanhelpthemfindajobeasily.ØⅡ.Thereasonsforthedifferencesmentionedabove:2.1Differenttraditionalculture Q10300125“Educationisaculturalphenomenon,differenteducationresponsetoadifferentculture.Sowecanseetheculturaldifferenceintheviewofcollegeeducation.“(Educationisa,2012)Fromancienton,Chinesepeoplearealwaysveryconservative,whichresultintheylackofspiritofadventureandinnovativeconsciousness.So,thestudentintheclassroomisnotveryactive.“Bycontrast,Americaisanationofimmigrantswithashorthistory.Withtheinfluenceofmulticultureanddifferentvalues,itiseasyforthemtobeactive.”(AComparativeStudy,2012)SoAmericanclassroomaremorelivelyandfreedom.2.3Differentsocialconditions“Bynow,socialsecuritysystemandold-agecarehavenotbeenperfectinChina.”(AComparativeStudy,2012)AndChinahasalargepopulationandmostcompaniesonlyrecruitpeoplewhohasadiplomaofgooduniversityanddon’tcarewhetheryouhaveabilityornot,thereforeit’shardforthemtofindajob.Forthisreason,studentsarestudyinghardinthehighschoolsothattheycanbeadmittedtoagooduniversity.Whentheyareintheuniversity,themajorityofthembelievetheydon’tneedtostudyhardagainfortheyknowtheycaneasilygetthediploma.ButinAmerican,approximatelyahalfofthemcan’tgettheirdiplomas.Thereforetheyhavetostudyhard.Besidesthereisaprosperdevelopmentofeconomyandsanesocialsecuritysystem,sotherearemoreemploymentopportunitiesinAmerican.(AComparativeStudy,2012)Andpeoplegetjobbytheirability.ØⅢ.ConclusionBythetextfromabove,it’sonlyageneralcomparativestudyonuniversityeducationbetweenAmericaandChina.Ofcourse,thereisalsodistinctivenessonit.AndcomparedwithChineseuniversityeducation,Americanuniversityeducationalsohasitsobviousshortage.SotheaimofthisthesisisnotjusttotallytorepudiateChineseuniversityeducationorwhollytoeulogizeAmericanuniversityeducation.(AComparativeStudy,2012)Inconclusion,comparedwithAmericanuniversityeducation,westillhavealottolearn.Firstly,weshouldchangeourinherentthought,don'ttoocareaboutrightandwrong.“Thereisquotationtosaythat,byMr.Qian,Chinahavenothadacreative
