2、akeandaFederalHighwayconceptbridgedesignareexamined.Theeffectsofasuiteofearthquakegroundmotionrecordswithdifferentvertical-to-horizontalpeakaccelerationratiosonthetwobridgesarepresentedandtheresultsarecomparedwiththecaseofhorizontal-onlyexcitation.Theeffectsofarrivaltimeinterv

3、albetweenhorizontalandverticalaccelerationpeaksarealsoreportedandcomparedtothecaseofcoincidentmotion.Itisobservedthattheinclusionoftheverticalcomponentofgroundmotionhasanimportanteffectontheresponseatalllevelsandcomponents.Itisthereforeconcludedthatverticalmotionshouldbeinclud
