4、xgeologicsettingsandallkindsofloadconditions,especiallyforsoftsoilfoundation.Pilefoundationiswidelyusedinbridgeengineering,foritslargebearingcapacity,wellstabilityandsmalldifferentialsettlementcomparedtootherfoundationtypes.Accordingtothedamagestatisticsofbridgesinthepaststrongearthquakesoverlastt
5、hirtyyears,thestructureswithpilefoundationhaveabetteraseismicperformancethanthosewithoutpilefoundation,butdamageswerealsofoundinpilefoundation.However,comparedtosuperstructure,therewerefewerreportsaboutearthquakedamagesofpilefoundation,thereasonofwhichmaybethatpilefoundationsareembeddedunderground
6、,whichmaketheirdamageshardtobefound.Since1960s,severalmajorearthquakes,suchasthe1975Haicheng,1976Tangshanand1995Hyogoken-Nanbu(Kobe)earthquakesetc.,gaveexcellentindicationsofbridgepilefailureperformance,andenrichourunderstandingsaboutthebridgepilefoundationduringearthquakeloading.1.EARTHQUAKEDAMAG
