3、pendsupontheapplicationandtheinformationrequired.Thispaperreviewstechniquesfornoisesourceidentificationandquantificationrangingfromsimplehand-heldsoundintensitysystems,hand-heldarraysystemstolargegroundbasedmicrophonearrays.ThemethodsincludeBeamforming,Sphe
4、ricalBeamformingandAcousticHolography.Guidelinesaregiventohelptheengineerchooseasuitabletechniquebasedonthefrequencyrangeofinterest,thedistancefromthemeasurementarraytothetestobjectandtheresolutionrequired.Practicalapplicationexamplesrangingfromhearingaidst
5、owindturbinesarepresentedtoillustratethevariousNSItechniques.1IntroductionSincethe1980¶sthesoundintensitytechniquebasedonaphase-matchedpairofmicrophones,hasbeenusedtoNoisesourceidentification(NSI)techniquesareusedtomeasuretheacousticenergyflow.Thisyieldsnot
6、onlytheoptimisethenoiseemissionfromawiderangeofproductsamplitudebutalsothedirectionofthesoundenergy.Theincludingvehicles,householdgoodsandwindturbines.ThemethodhasbeenincorporatedintoanumberofgoalofNSIistoidentifythemostimportantsub-sourcesoninternationalst
