1、UsingVideoAnimationtoAssessMobilityinOlderAdultsBackground.Althoughtheimportanceofthecontextoftaskperformanceintheassessmentofmobilityinolderadultsisgenerallyunderstood,thereislittleempiricalevidencethatdemonstrateshowsensitiveolderadultsaretosubtlechangesintaskdemands.Thus,wedevelopedanovelappro

2、achtoexaminethisissue.Methods.Wecollecteditemresponsedatato81animatedvideoclips,wherevariousmobility-relatedtasksweremodifiedinasystematicfashiontomanipulatetaskdifficulty.Results.Theparticipants(N=234),166womenand68men,hadanaverageageof81.9yearsandavarietyofcomorbidities.Histogramsofitemresponse

3、srevealeddramaticandsystematiceffectsonolderadults’self-reportedabilitywhenvaryingwalkingspeed,useofahandrailduringascentanddescentofstairs,walkingatdifferentspeedsoutdoorsoveruneventerrain,andcarryinganobject.Forexample,therewasalmostathreefoldincreaseinreportingtheinabilitytowalkatthefastspeedc

4、omparedwiththeslowspeedforaminuteorless,andtwiceasmanyparticipantsreportedtheinabilitytowalkatthefastspeedoutdoorsoveruneventerraincomparedwithindoors.Conclusions.Thedataprovideclearevidencethatvaryingthecontextualfeaturesanddemandsofasimpletasksuchasstairclimbinghasasignificantimpactonolderadult
