2、yisengagedinreasoningaboutthenatureoflaw.Theargumentsaddressedtothequestionofthenatureoflawrevolvearoundthreeproblems.Thefirstproblemaddressesthequestion:Inwhatkindsofentitiesdoesthelawconsist,andhowaretheseentitiesconnectedsuchthattheyformtheoverarchingentitywecall“law”?Theanswerist
3、hatlawconsistsofnormsasmeaningcontentswhichformanorma-tivesystem.Thesecondproblemaddressesthequestionofhownormsasmeaningcontentsareconnectedwiththerealworld.Thisconnectioncanbegraspedbymeansoftheconceptsofauthoritativeissuanceandsocialefficacy.Thelatterincludestheconceptofcoercionorf
4、orce.Thethirdproblemaddressesthecorrectnessorlegiti-macyoflaw,and,bythis,therelationshipbetweenlawandmorality.Toaskaboutthenatureoflawistoaskaboutnecessaryrelationsbetweentheconceptsofnor-mativemeaning,authoritativeissuanceaswellassocialefficacy,andcorrectnessofcontent.Thequestionoft
5、henatureoflegalphilosophyconnectstwoproblems.Thefirstconcernsthegeneralnatureofphilosophy,thesecond,thespecialchar-acterofthatpartofphilosophywecall“legalphilosophy.”I.TheNatureofPhilosophyTherearesomanyschools,methods,styles,subjects,andidealsofphiloso-phythatitisdifficulttoexplainit
6、snature.Ageneralexplanationofthenatureofphilosophywouldpresupposethatalloratleastmostoftheverydifferentconceptionsofphilosophywhichhaveappearedinthehistoryofthefieldhavesomethingincommonthatcanbeconceivedofasthefocalmeaningortheconceptofphilosophy.Perhapsthemostgeneralfeatureofthecon
