3、icitsaltionsimulationsandself-consistentfieldtheory.Wedemonstratethatthedatageneratedwiththesedifferenttechniquesareinexcellentagreement,therebyconfirmingthevalidityoftheDebyeapproximationinthecontextofpolyelectrolytebrushes.TheefficiencyoftheDebyeapproximationisverifiedthroug
4、hbenchmarkcomputations.Furtheron,wedevelopanimprovedFlory-typemean-fieldmodel,basedontheoriginalargumentbyPincus,buttakingintoaccountboththeexcludedvolumeandfiniteextensibilityofchains.Onthebasisofthismodel,wedemonstratehowtheinterplayofcounterionpressureandexcludedvolumer
5、epulsionexplainstheobservedeffectofsaltontheswellingofthebrushundergoodsolventconditions.Thebrushheightasafunctionofgraftingdensityisinvestigated,anditisarguedthattheresultingpowerlawscalingof-1/3isincapableofdistinguishingbetweenexcludedvolumeandelectrostaticeffects.I.INT
