3、whichthereadersarestronglyencouragedtoreviewthenfirst.WewillusetheterminologiesdefinedinRef.[1]fortechnicaldiscussioninthischapter.13.1.1.BatteryManagementBatteryManagementcanbedefinedastheeffectiveuseandcontrolofenergyandpowerintoandoutofastringofatleastonebattery,
4、eitherprimaryorsecondary.Typically,abatteryisacombinationofseriesand/orparallelofcellsplacedintoasinglecontainmentasabatterymodule.Abatterypackusuallyconsistsofmodulesinseriesand/orparallel.Thebatterypackmaybeenclosedinthedeviceitispoweringentirelyormayberemovablean
5、dreplaceable.Thebatterymanagementincludesdischargeandmayincludechargeforsecondarybatteries.BatteryManagementistypicallyimplementedintobatteryoperationfortwomajorpurposes.Oneistooptimizethebatteryperformance,andtheothertomitigatesafetyhazards.Atypicalmanagementsystem
6、mayfirstinvolvemonitoringofbasiccharacteristicssuchaspressure,temperature,voltage,orcurrentforpre-setvaluesinordertoprotectthecellfromoperationoutsidethelimitssetbythemanufacturer.Thenextlevelinvolvesmeasuringofindividualbatterycharacteristicstogetappropriateinforma
