2、ved27July2004;accepted24August2004Availableonline5October2004AbstractThispaperpresentsanexpertspindledesignsystemstrategywhichisbasedontheefficientutilizationofpastdesignexperience,thelawsofmachinedesign,dynamicsandmetalcuttingmechanics.Theconfigurationofthespindleisdecidedfromthespecificationsof
3、theworkpiecematerial,desiredcuttingconditions,andmostcommontoolsusedonthemachinetool.Thespindledrivemechanism,drivemotor,bearingtypes,andspindleshaftdimensionsareselectedbasedonthetargetapplications.Thepaperprovidesasetoffuzzydesignrules,whichleadtoaninteractiveandautomaticdesignofspindledrive
4、configurations.Thestructuraldynamicsofthespindleareautomaticallyoptimizedbydistributingthebearingsalongthespindleshaft.TheproposedstrategyistoiterativelypredicttheFrequencyResponseFunction(FRF)ofthespindleatthetooltipusingtheFiniteElementMethod(FEM)basedontheTimoshenkobeamtheory.ThepredictedFRF
