5、rstmajorfloodcontroldistrictsinOhioandtheUnitedStates.[2]Thisalsoinflictedadominoseriesofevents,resultinginafurtherdisruption.ThefloodwascreatedbyaseriesofthreewinterstormsthathittheregioninMarch1913.Withinthreedays,8-11inchesofrainfellthroughouttheGreatMiamiRiverwatershedonfrozenground,resultin

6、ginmorethan90%runoffthatcausedtheriveranditstributariestooverflow.Theexistingseriesofleveesfailed,anddowntownDaytonexperiencedfloodingupto20 feet(6.1 m)deep.ThisfloodisstillthefloodofrecordfortheGreatMiamiRiverwatershed,andtheamountofwaterthatpassedthroughtheriverchannelduringthisstormequalsthef

7、lowoverNiagaraFallseachmonth.[1]GreatDaytonFloodTheMiamiRiverwatershedcoversnearly4,000 squaremiles(10,000 km2)and115 miles(185 km)ofchannelthatfeedsintotheOhioRiver.[3]OthercitiesacrossOhioexperiencedfloodingfromthesestorms
