2、nflightmechanicsanalysisandentryguidancedesigns.Butnorigorousmathematicalcharacterizationofthisquasi-equilibriumflightconditionexiststhatcanhelpprovideadeeperunderstandingofwhenandhowsuchaflightconditiontakesplaceandwhatisthepreciserelationshipbetweenexactandquasi-equilibri
3、umglide.Wepresentaformalanalysistoquasi-equilibriumentryflightinthispaper.Weembedthequasi-equilibriumglidingflightprobleminaclassofregularperturbationproblemsandobtainsolutionsinasymptoticexpansions.Weshowthatthezeroth-ordersolutionisanexactequilibriumglidesolution.Weprovi
4、dethecompletesolutionstructureandconvergenceanalysis.Ouranalysisyieldsquantitativeaccuracyestimatestothequasi-equilibriumglideconditionthatcanguidehowthisapproximationcanbebestused.Thesolutionstructureweobtainnaturallyleadstowhatcanbedonetoimprovetheaccuracyofthequasi-eq
5、uilibriumglidecondition.I.IntroductionnatureoftheapproximationsarisingfromtheQEGCgoesbeyondHEnotionofequilibriumglidewasfirstintroducedintheanal-simplyignoringsmallflight-pathangle.TheactualprofilesoftheTysisofhypervelocityliftingflightbytheGermanrocketsci-altitude,velocity,
6、andbankangleingeneralaredifferentfromthoseentistS¨angerasearlyasthe1930s.1,2Thephysicalbasisisthatininexactequilibriumglide.SowhentheseactualprofilesareusedglidingflighttheverticalcomponentoftheaccelerationtendstobeintheQEGC,theyalsointroduceapproximations.Thefundamentalsm
7、all,andtheflight-pathangleislikelytobesmall.Thereforethequestionsunansweredincludeunderwhatconditionsandinwhatflight-pathangleanditsratecanbeapproximatedbyzerointhesensetheQEGCcanbeconsideredavalidapproximation;wheredifferentialequationgoverningtheflight-pathangle.Thediffer
