5、iling,macromolecularcrowdingandarchitecturalproteinsthatshapeDNAbybindingtoit.Thearchitecturalproteinsinbacteria,archaeaandeukaryotesgenerallydonotexhibitsequenceorstructuralconservationespeciallyacrosskingdoms.Instead,weproposethattheyarefunctionallyconserved
6、.Mostoftheseproteinscanbeclassifiedaccordingtotheirarchitecturalmodeofaction:bending,wrappingorbridgingDNA.InorderforDNAtransactionstooccurwithinacompactchromatincontext,genomeorganizationcannotbestatic.Indeedchromosomesaresubjecttoawholerangeofremodelingmechan
7、isms.Inthisreview,wediscusstheroleof(i)DNAsupercoiling,(ii)macromolecularcrowdingand(iii)architecturalproteinsingenomeorganization,aswellas(iv)mechanismsusedtoremodelchromosomestructureandtomodulategenomicactivity.Weconcludethattheunderlyingmechanismsthatshape
