6、galongoppositeshore,completelycuttingoffgeneflowbetweenthem.Geographicisolationalsocanproceedslowly,overgreatspansoftime.Wefindevidenceofsuchextendedeventsinthefossilrecord,whichaffordsglimpsesintothebreakupofformerlycontinuousenvironments.Forexample,duringpasticeages,glac
