2、hefluorescencemicroscopytechnique.TheresultswerecomparedwiththosefromahardwoodKraftpulp.AtasameOBAcharge,thefluorescentintensityofOBA-treatedKraftpulpwasstrongerthanthatoftheOBA-treatedHYP.Interestingly,fortheaspenHYP,theOBAdiffusionoccurredfromboththefibresurfaceinward,andthelumenoutward,w
3、hilefortheKraftpulp,theOBAdiffusionoccurredmainlyfromthefibresurfaceinward.ThedifferencebetweenmechanicalandKraftpulpingprocesses,(mechanicalpulpingproducesABSTRACTopen-endedfibreswhilechemicalpulpingproducesintactfibres),canaccountforthedifferenceintheOBAdiffusionbetweentheHYPandKraftpulp.
4、INTRODUCTIONOpticalbrighteningagents(OBA)are[3,16],andtherearethreepossibleexplana-HYPisfundamentallydifferentfromcommonlyusedinthepulpandpaperin-tionsforthisdifference:thebleachedKraftpulp.Unlikebleacheddustry,andtheycanbeappliedtodifferent1)HYPtypicallyhaslowerbrightnessKraftpulp,HYPretai
