5、ntofficershassomerealadvantages,yetmakingthetransitiontothatmorediverseworkforcehaspresentedsomechallenges.Recently,asuspectwashandcuffedinfrontofhisthreeyoungchildrenandbecameagitated,demandinganapology.Themaledeputywhohandcuffedhimwasnotinthemoodfordebate,andtheatmosphere
6、grewverytense.Fifteen-yearpoliceveteranCherylPecksteppedinandcalmlypointedout,“Look,wedon’tknowyou.Wedon’tknowwhatyourintentionsare.”Peck’swordsandfemalepresenceevidentlyreducedtensions.Theresultswerethesame—thesuspectwastakenintocustody—butthecircumstancesweredifferent(and
