2、ssures,theheatsandvolumesofmixing,andthethermalpressurecoefficientsofsolutionsofpolypropyleneglycoldimethyletherinchloroformandincarbontetrachloride.Forthecalorimetry,anewandextremelysimpletypeofmixingvesselforanisothermalcalorimeterwasdesignedwhichenabledtwoliquidcomponen

3、tstobemixedatconstantpressurewithoutthepresenceofanyvapourspaceabovetheliquids.Themeasurementshavebeenusedtocalculatethethermodynamicmixingfunctionsformixingwithzerovolumechange,whicharecomparedwiththepredictionsofthegeneralizedlatticetheory.Thethermodynamicbehaviouroftheh

4、ydrogen-bondingchloroformsolutionsispredictedmorecloselybytheuseofthe"zerothapproximation"inthelatticetheorythanbytheuseofthe"first"or"quasi-chemical"approximation.ThebehaviourofthecarbontetrachloridesolutionsispredictedwithinexperimentalerrorbythesimpleFloryequations.This

5、paperreportsthefirstpartofasystematicstudyofthepropertiesofpolymersolutionsinwhichhydrogenbondsareformedbetweenthepolymerandthesolventmolecules.Theoreticaltreatmentsofmixturesofpolarsubstanceshavebeendevelopedtoastagewhereitisprofitabletotestthemwithdataofthehighestprecisi
