1、SotheAwesomestory:Itbeginsabout40yearsago,whenmymomandmydadcametoCanada.MymomleftNairobi,Kenya.MydadleftasmallvillageoutsideofAmritsar,India.Andtheygothereinthelate1960s.TheysettledinashadysuburbaboutanhoureastofToronto,andtheysettledintoanewlife.Theysawtheirfirstdentist,theyatetheirfir
2、sthamburger,andtheyhadtheirfirstkids.MysisterandIgrewuphere,andwehadquiet,happychildhoods.Wehadclosefamily,goodfriends,aquietstreet.Wegrewuptakingforgrantedalotofthethingsthatmyparentscouldn'ttakeforgrantedwhentheygrewup--thingslikepoweralwaysoninourhouses,thingslikeschoolsacrossthestre
3、etandhospitalsdowntheroadandpopsiclesinthebackyard.Wegrewup,andwegrewolder.Iwenttohighschool.Igraduated.Imovedoutofthehouse,Igotajob,Ifoundagirl,Isettleddown--andIrealizeitsoundslikeabadsitcomoraCatStevens'song--(Laughter)butlifewasprettygood.Lifewasprettygood.2006wasagreatyear.Undercle
4、arblueskiesinJulyinthewineregionofOntario,Igotmarried,surroundedby150familyandfriends.2007wasagreatyear.Igraduatedfromschool,andIwentonaroadtripwithtwoofmyclosestfriends.Here'sapictureofmeandmyfriend,Chris,onthecoastofthePacificOcean.Weactuallysawsealsoutofourcarwindow,andwepulledoverto
5、takeaquickpictureofthemandthenblockedthemwithourgiantheads.(Laughter)Soyoucan'tactuallyseethem,butitwasbreathtaking,believeme.(Laughter)2008and2009werealittletougher.Iknowthattheyweretougherforalotofpeople,notjustme.Firstofall,thenewswassoheavy.It'sstillheavynow,anditwasheavybeforethat,
6、butwhenyouflippedopenanewspaper,whenyouturnedontheTV,itwasabouticecapsmelting,warsgoingonaroundtheworld,earthquakes,hurricanesandaneconomythatwaswobblingonthebrinkofcollapse,andtheneventuallydidcollapse,andsomanyofuslosingourhomes,orourjobs,orourretirements,orourlivelihoods.2008,2009wer
7、eheavyyearsformeforanotherreason,too.Iwasgoingthroughalotofpersonalproblemsatthetime.Mymarriagewasn'tgoingwell,andwejustweregrowingfurtherandfurtherapart.Onedaymywifecamehomefromworkandsummonedthecourage,throughalotoftears,tohaveaveryhonestconversation.Andshesaid,"Idon'tloveyou
