3、bytheNASAOfficeofEducation,theExplorationSystemsMissionDirectorate(ESMD),andtheNASASpaceGrantConsortium.ThecoursewasdevelopedandimplementedbytheMechanicalandAerospaceEngineeringDepartment(MAE)atUtahStateUniversity.Thecoursefinaloutcomeisapackagedseniordesigncoursethatcanbereadilyincorpora

4、tedintotheinstructionalcurriculumatuniversitiesacrossthecountry.ThecoursematerialsadheretothestandardsoftheAccreditationBoardforEngineeringandTechnology(ABET),andisconstructedtoberelevanttokeyresearchareasidentifiedbyESMD.Thedesignprojectchallengedstudentstoapplysystemsengineeringconcepts

5、todefineresearchandtrainingrequirementsforaterrestrial-basedlunarlandingsimulator.ThisprojectdevelopedaflyingprototypeforaLunarorPlanetarySurfaceLandingResearchVehicle(LPSRV).PerNASAspecificationstheconceptaccountsforreducedlunargravity,andallowstheterminalstageoflunardescenttobeflowneith

6、erbyremotepilotorautonomously.Thisfree-flyingplatformwasdesignedtobesufficiently-flexibletoallowbothsensorevaluationandpilottraining.Thishandbookoutlinesthecoursematerials,describesthesystemsengineeringprocessesdevelopedtofacilitatedesignfabrication,integration,andtesting.Thishandbookpres
