3、idual’sschema.Weexaminehowtheframeofpostdebatenewsanalysisprimesaudiencereflectiononapreviouslyviewedsegmentfromthe2004presidentialdebates(aprocessweidentifyas‘‘primedreflection’’).Resultsshowthattheinfluenceofpostdebatenewsanalysisisafunctionoftheinterac-tionbetweenthenews-analysisfram

5、nalysesthattendtofocusmoreontheperformanceofthecandidatesthanontheirstandsontheissues(Lemert,Elliott,Bernstein,Rosenberg,&Nestvold,1991).Researchshowsthatpresidentialdebatesandsubsequentnewscoveragecanaffectcharacterperceptions,knowledgeofcandidatesandissues,andvotingbehavior(Benoit&

6、Hansen,2004;Pfau,2002).Lemertetal.(1991)showedthatthepost-debateanalysiscanhaveasmuchofanimpactasthedebateitself.Inbothcases,thenatureoftheeffectsseemstodependonindividualdifferencesamongvotersintermsofpoliticalknowledge,ideology,salienceofissues,strengthofinitialattitude,andexposure

7、tonewscoverage(e.g.,Benoit&Hansen;Kendall,1997;Lanoue,1992;Pfau,2002).Inordertofurtherunderstandtheeffectsofpostdebatenewsanalysis,webeginwithacognitive-processingmodelderivedfrompastresearchwhichidentifiescom-monprocessesthatintegrateprimingandframingtobetterexplainmediaeffects(inth
