4、ns.ByemphasizingtheeffortsmadetoimpedeprintingpiracyinearlymodernEngland,PollardarguedthattheQuartosaremuchclosertoShakespeare’smanuscriptsthanpreviousscholarshiphadallowed.Pollard,alongwithJ.DoverWilson,W.W.GregandR.B.McKerrow,wasinstrumentalinestablishingthetheoretic
5、alframeworkofNewBibliography,andonitspublicationthebookwasgreetedwithwhatisdescribedintheintroductionas‘friendlycontroversy’.Firstpublishedin1915,thebookwasrevisedforrepublicationin1920.Thisreissueisofthe1967reprint.CambridgeUniversityPresshaslongbeenapioneerinthereiss
