2、sychologyandHealthThisstudytestedandrefinedthejobdemands–resourcesmodel,demonstratingthatseveraljobresourcesplayaroleinbufferingtheimpactofseveraljobdemandsonburnout.Atotalof1,012employeesofalargeinstituteforhighereducationparticipatedinthestudy.Fourdemandingaspectsofthejob(e.g.,workoverload,e
3、motionaldemands)and4jobresources(e.g.,autonomy,performancefeedback)wereusedtotestthecentralhypothesisthattheinteractionbetween(high)demandsand(low)resourcesproducesthehighestlevelsofburnout(exhaustion,cynicism,reducedprofessionalefficacy).Thehypothesiswasrejectedfor(reduced)professionalefficacy
4、butconfirmedforexhaustionandcynicismregarding18outof32possible2-wayinteractions(i.e.,combinationsofspecificjobdemandsandresources).Duringthepastthreedecades,manystudieshaveTheJobDemands–ResourcesModelshownthatunfavorablejobcharacteristicsmayhaveaprofoundimpactonjobstressandburnout.ForAttheheart
5、oftheJD-Rmodel(Bakker,Demer-example,researchhasrevealedthatworkoverload,outi,DeBoer,&Schaufeli,2003;Demeroutietal.,lackofautonomy,emotionaldemands,lowsocial2001)liestheassumptionthatwhereaseveryoccu-support,androleambiguitycanallleadtofeelingsofpationmayhaveitsownspecificriskfactorsassoci-exha
6、ustionandnegative,callousattitudestowardatedwithjobstressorburnout,thesefactorscanbework(forreviews,seeLee&Ashforth,1996;classifiedintwogeneralcategories(i.e.,jobdemandsSchaufeli&Enzmann,1998).Althoughtheseprevi-andjobresources),thusconstitutinganoverarchingousstudieshaveproducedalonglistofpos
