2、cdesignscanincludeVHDLorVerilogmodels(oneortheother,notboth)aslowerlevelhierarchicalmodules,butthesemodelscanonlyinstantiateothermodels(ofthesametype)atlowerlevelsinthehierarchy.Considerthefollowingillustration:Anyschematicdesignmodulecanincludeeitherschematicsor

3、VHDL/Verilogmodelsasinstantiatedcomponents.However,VHDL/Verilogdesignmodulesarelimitedtoothermodulesofthesametypeasinstantiatedcomponents.Hence,iftherootmoduleofyourdesignisaVHDLmodel,alllowerlevelmodulesmustalsobeVHDLmodels.Note:Ifyouhaven'tspecifiedarootforyour

4、design,youcannotgeneratereports.Also,1whenfoldersarecopiedtoanewdesign,theROOTdesignationislostandmustbereestablishedinthedesign.CreatinganewdesignThissectioncovers:CreatinganewdesignfilebeforepopulatingtheprojectCreatinganewdesignaftertheprojectispopulatedNote:T

5、herecanbeonlyonedesignfileinaproject.Ifyoucreateanewdesignfile,ormoveorcopyadifferentoneintotheproject,theprojectmanagerwillaskyouifyouwanttoreplacetheexistingdesignfile.CreatinganewdesignfilebeforepopulatingtheprojectWhentheprojectisfirstcreated,theprojectmanage

6、rcreatesadesignfilewiththesamenameastheproject.Italsocreatesaschematicfolderwithinthedesignfile,andaschematicpagewithinthefolder.Theschematicfoldericonismarkedwithabackslashcharacter()tosignifythatitistherootschematicfolder.Adesignfilealsocontainsadesigncache,wh

7、ichislikeanembeddedlibrary--itcontainsacopyofallthepartsandsymbolsusedontheschematicpages.YoucanviewthehierarchyusingtheFiletabintheprojectmanager.Youcancreateanewdesignfiletoreplacethedesigncreatedbytheprojectmanager.Note:Anewdesigninheritscharacteristicsfromthe
