2、n(1988)andGregoryandHansen(1996)cointegrationmethodsshowthatthereisnolong-runrelationshipbetweenpopulationandeconomicgrowth.Nonetheless,thestudyfindsthatthereisbidirectionalGrangercausalitybetweenpopulationandeconomicgrowthforJapan,Korea,andThailand.ForChina,Singapore,andthePhilippines,po
3、pulationisfoundtoGrangercauseeconomicgrowthandnotviceversa.ForHongKongandMalaysia,economicgrowthisfoundtoGrangercausepopulationandnotviceversa.ForTaiwanandIndonesia,thereisnoevidenceofGrangercausalitybetweenpopulationandeconomicgrowth.Onthewhole,therelationshipbetweenpopulationandeconomic
4、growthisnotstraightforward.Populationgrowthcouldbebeneficialordetrimentaltoeconomicgrowthandeconomicgrowthcouldhaveanimpactonpopulationgrowth.I.Introductionproduct(GDP)percapitawereabletoincrease1(Meier1995,p.276).ThedebatebetweenTheissueofpopulationandeconomicgrowthisaspositiveandnegativ
