3、ndataobtainedfromimageprocessingofbatchflotationfroth,specificsurfaceareaandaverageequivalentdiameterwerecalculated.Itwasfoundthatweightingbysurfaceareawasthemostappropriatemethodtodeterminebothspecificsurfaceareaandaverageequivalentdiameter.Theequivalentellipsoidaldiameterwasfoundtobeamoreappro

6、tovolume,orspecificsurfacearea.Thereareanumberofwell-knowntechniquestodeterminethespecificsurfaceareaofparticles(Allen,1997),howeverthesecannotbeusedinthecaseofbubbles.Furthermore,alargenumberofparticlesisgenerallyusedtodeterminecharacteristiclengthordiameterswhereasforbubbles,duetodifficultiesi
7、nhandlingthem,thisisnotalwayspossible.Anexampleistheuseofimageanalysisofthefrothsurface,wherethenumberofbubblesmeasuredwilldependalsoontheproximityofthecameratothefroth.Iftheimageistakenfromclose-up,highresolutionisobtained.
