2、2006Summary.Piezoelectricactuatorscanbeusedtogeneratehigh-frequencyelasticwavesfordamageidentificationofmaterials.Thispaperprovidesacomprehensivetheoreticalstudyoftheelectromechanicalbehaviorofsurface-bondedorembeddedpiezoelectricactuatorsunderinplaneelectricfields.Amodifiedone-dimensio

3、nalactuatormodelisintroduced,fromwhicharbitrarilydistributedelectricfieldsalongtheactuatorcanbeconsidered.Themodelisusedtosimulatethedynamicloadtransferbetweentheactuatorandthehostmediumandtheresultingelasticwavepropagationbyusingtheintegraltransformmethodandsolvingtheresultingsingula

4、rintegralequations.Ofparticularinterestisthegeneratedwaveformawayfromtheactuatorunderdifferentelectricfields.Anasymptoticanalysisisconductedtoobtainthefar-fieldsolutionofthewavefield.Thepropertyoftheresultingwaveformisstudied,andthesimulationshowsthatthedirectionofwavepropagationcanbeadj

5、ustedbycontrollingthephasedistributionoftheappliedelectricfieldalongtheactuator.1IntroductionThedevelopmentofnewpiezoceramicmaterialswithhighelectromechanicalcouplinghasrevivedintenseresearchanddevelopmentofnewpiezoelectricactuatorsfordifferentstructuralapplications,e.g.,thevibrationan

6、dnoisecontrolofspaceandaircraftstructures,thesmartskinsystemforsubmarines,smartsportsproducts,andthenon-destructiveevaluation(NDE)ofmaterials[1]–[4].Thesenewpiezoceramicactuatorscanbeeasilyfabricatedindifferentdesiredshapesandcanbeusedindifferentapplicationstoachievethehighestpossibled

7、eformationorforceforlowestpossibleappliedvoltage.Theyhavetheadvantagesoflowcost,quickresponse,lowpowerconsumption,compactness,andhighsensitivityoveralargerangeofloadingfrequencies.Asaresult,inadditiontotheapplicationinmonitoringandcontrollingtheglobalbehaviorofstructures,theyalsoshow
