5、becomesmorecritical.Recently,duetothedevelopmentofnewtechnologyinhighpowerelectronics,newcontrolandmonitoringdevicesarebecomingmorepopularinpowersystems.Itisthereforenecessarytoinvestigatetheirmodelsandintegratethemintotheexistingstateestimationapplicatio

6、ns.Thisdissertationisdedicatedtoexploitingthenewlyappearedcontrollingandmonitoringdevices,suchasFlexibleACTransmissionSystem(FACTS)devicesand(PhasorMeasurementUnits)PMUs,anddevelopingnewalgorithmstoincludethemintopowersystemanalysisapplications.Anothergoa

7、listodevelopa3Dvisualizationtooltohelppowersystemoperatorsgainanin-depthimageofthesystemoperationstateandtoidentifylimitviolationsinaquickandintuitivemanner.AnalgorithmofstateestimationofapowersystemwithembeddedFACTSdevicesisdevelopedfirst.Thisestimatorcan

8、beusedtoestimatethesystemstatequantitiesandUnifiedPowerFlowController(UPFC)controllerparameters.Further-more,itcanalsotobeusedtodeterminetherequiredcontrollersettingtomaintainadesiredpowerflowthroughagivenline.Inthese
