4、ficientlyandeconomicallyintoday’sstronglycompetitiveenvironment.Inordertoachievetheseobjectives,itiscrucialforpowersystemcontrolcenterstoaccuratelymonitorthesystemoperatingstate.Stateestimationisanessentialtoolinanenergymanagementsystem(EMS).Itisresponsibleforprovidinganac

5、curateandcorrectestimateforthesystemoperatingstatebasedontheavailablemeasurementsinthepowersystem.Arobuststateestimationshouldhavethecapabilityofkeepingthesystemobservableduringdifferentcontingencies,aswellasdetectingandidentifyingthegrosserrorsinmeasurementsetandnetworkto

6、pology.However,thiscapabilityreliesdirectlyonthesystemnetworkconfigurationandmeasurementlocations.Inotherwords,areliableandredundantmeasurementsystemistheprimaryconditionforarobuststateestimation.Thisdissertationisfocusedonthepossiblebenefitstostateestimationofusingsynchro

7、nizedphasormeasurementstoimprovethemeasurementsystem.Thebenefitsareinvestigatedwithrespecttothemeasurementredundancy,baddataandtopologyiverrorprocessingfunctionsinstateestimation.Thisdissertationstudieshowtoutilizethephasormeasurementsinthetraditionalstateestimation.Theopt
