3、ofdollarstoestablishandendowXiamenUniversity,officiallyfoundedin1921.ItisregardedasoneofthemostprestigiousandselectiveuniversitiesinChina.Mr.TanhandedoverXiamenUniversitytothegovernmentin1937duetolackoffunds,andtheinstitutionsubsequentlybecameanationaluniversity.In1938
4、,attheoutbreakoftheSecondSino-JapaneseWar,theuniversitytemporaryrelocatedtoChangtinginMinXicounty,westernFujian.AttheendofWorldWarIIin1946,XiamenUniversitymovedbacktoXiamenandresumednormaloperations.In1952,XiamenUniversitybecameacomprehensiveuniversity,andhasbeendesign
5、atedasanationalkeyuniversitysince1962.Then,in1952itbecameacomprehensiveuniversityembracingbothartsandscience.In1963,itwasdesignatedasastatekeyuniversity.In1995,itwasincludedinthelistofthe"211Project"forthestatekeyconstruction;in2000,itbecameoneofChina’shigher-leveluniv
