2、evidence.ResearchwasconductedinJuly2008among600Australiansacrossthecountrytobetterunderstandtheirattitudestowardsanduseoflabellingschemes-%DailyIntake(%DI),TrafficLightGuide(TLG)andHeartFoundationTick(HFT)-tomakehealthierfoodchoices.TheresearchfoundthatTLG,%DIandHFTwereequallyeffectiveinhelp

3、ingconsumerstoaccuratelychoosethehealthierfood.Nooneschemeworkedequallywellforalltypesoffoodsandresultsforeachvariedwidelyacrossthe10foodcategoriesand20‘reallife’productstested.Althoughperceivedasuseful,TLGdidnotleadconsumerstoaccuratelymakethehealthierchoiceacrossallcategories.Thishighlight

4、sthatconsumerpreferenceforaschemedoesnotnecessarilymeanthataconsumermakesanaccuratehealthierchoice.Perhapssurprisingly,thedifferentlabellingschemesalsoworkedequallyeffectivelyacrossallsocio-economicgroups.TheHeartFoundationiscommittedtoensuringanychangetofrontofpacklabelling(FOPL)inAustralia

5、supportsthemostfundamentalstrategyofimprovingthenutritionprofileofthefoodsAustralianseatmostoften.Alabellingschememustbothdrivefoodimprovementandguidepeopletogenuinelyhealthierfoodanddrinkchoices.Acollaborativeapproachbetweenallgroupstoshareresearchandagreethedetailsofaneffectivelabellingsch

6、emeisnowneededifitistobecomearealityandAustraliansaretotrulybenefit.BackgroundInseekingpotentialstrategiestoaddresstheongoingobesityissue,thereismountingpressureforfoodlabelstobeuserfriendlyinguidingconsumerstohealthierfoodchoices.Whilethoseinvolvedinthelabellingdiscussionagreethatfrontofpac

7、klabelling(FOPL)schemescanbeofvalue,thereislittleconsensusoverwhichlabellingschemewouldbestserveAustralians.So,debatecontinuesinthepublicarena.Asanevidence-basedorganisationwithalmost20yearsexperiencerunningasuccessfulvoluntaryFOPLprogram,theHeartF
