4、results?Onlyafewchildreninschooleverbecomegoodatlearninginthewaywetrytomakethemlearn.Mostofthemgethumiliated,frightened,anddiscouraged.Theyusetheirminds,nottolearn,buttogetoutofdoingthethingswetellthemtodo--tomakethemlearn.Intheshortrun,thesestrategiesseemtowork

6、thanlimitedversionsofthehumanbeingstheymighthavebecome.Thisistherealfailurethattakesplaceinschool;hardlyanychildrenescape.Whenwebetterunderstandtheways,conditions,andspiritinwhichchildrendotheirbestlearning,andareabletomakeschoolintoaplacewheretheycanuseandimpro
7、vethestyleofthinkingandlearningnaturaltothem,wemaybeabletopreventmuchofthisfailure.Schoolmaythenbecomeaplaceinwhichallchildrengrow,notjustinsize,noteveninknowledge,butincuriosity,courage,confidence,independence,resourcefulness,resilience,patience,competence,andu
