2、astheterritorialsea.2.ThissovereigntyisexercisedsubjecttotheprovisionsoftheseArticlesandtootherrulesofinternationallaw.Article2ThesovereigntyofacoastalStateextendstotheairspaceovertheterritorialseaaswellastoitsbedandsubsoil.SectionII.LimitsoftheTerritorialSeaArticle3Exceptwhere

3、otherwiseprovidedintheseArticles,thenormalbaselineformeasuringthebreadthoftheterritorialseaisthelow-waterlinealongthecoastasmarkedonlarge-scalechartsofficiallyrecognisedbythecoastalStates.Article41.Inlocalitieswherethecoastlineisdeeplyindentedandcutinto,orifthereisafringeofisla

4、ndsalongthecoastinitsimmediatevicinity,themethodofstraightbaselinesjoiningappropriatepointsmaybeemployedindrawingthebaselinefromwhichthebreadthoftheterritorialseaismeasured.2.Thedrawingofsuchbaselinesmustnotdeparttoanyappreciableextentfromthegeneraldirectionofthecoast,andthesea

5、areaslyingwithinthelinesmustbesufficientlycloselylinkedtothelanddomaintobesubjecttotheregimeofinternalwaters.3.Baselinesshallnotbedrawntoandfromlow-tideelevations,unlesslighthousesorsimilarinstallationswhicharepermanentlyabovesealevelhavebeenbuiltonthem.4.Wherethemethodofstraig

6、htbaselinesisapplicableundertheprovisionsofparagraph1,accountmaybetaken,indeterminingparticularbaselines,ofeconomicinterestspeculiartotheregionconcerned,therealityandtheimportanceofwhichareclearlyevidencedbyalongusage.5.ThesystemofstraightbaselinesmaynotbeappliedbyaStateinsucha
